Fruiteam Floor Mat

Post by Grogan »

It was time for a new office chair mat again, and I vowed I was never buying another one of those poxy vinyl ones that you can't get any purchase on with the chair wheels, and when they get ruts, it's a pain in the ass.

I saw this one with a non-slip surface (like a hot rolled diamond pattern on the top) made from a heavier PVC. The pictures are like an optical illusion making it look like the diamond pattern has depth, but it doesn't. (I mean, it looks awfully impractical in the pictures but it's a textured flat surface)

They must have rolled the fucking thing up real tight when the resin was still hot, because was this ever a bitch to get unrolled. I almost just put it right back in the box and returned it, "here, YOU unroll this thing" lol). I think I'm going to leave a review, "Recommend wearing work gloves and a long sleeved coat when handling this snapping venus fly trap of a product, for it bites hard"

I had to first get one edge under this heavy credenza/end table thing on my left (my speaker set sits on top of that thing) to weigh it down, then keep pressure on it with my knee as I unrolled it inch by inch, from underneath. It was hard. My knees, back, hips, wrists, hands are all sore from the contorting abuse. And after all that, it's got to be moved forward a bit. Not now, I'm not disturbing again it until it has a memory of being flat for a few days.

I'm sitting on it now, but I've still got heavy books and old UPS units around the edges to keep it from trying to roll inwards again.

All to save a few cubic centimeters of packaging.

We'll have to see how long this thing is going to last. I can't really comment on much but that shit sandwich of getting it unrolled at this time. There is resistance to moving the wheels though, so if it doesn't wear out soon and get ruts, mission accomplished.

P.S. Something funny, in the literature somewhere it says "VARIABLE SHAPE". I wondered what they meant by that and it's "The desk chair mat can be cut into your favorite shape" (umm, have fun cutting this material). They must be Chinese or something to think of that  (sounds like a language thing... literal use of words like "variable"). They can roll it up into their favorite shape, and shove it up their ass.

Fruit team

That one looks really good. My previous house had thick carpet so I had four of those thick vinyl floor mats. They were great once fully flattened but yeah, they are wicked when initially unrolling. I got nailed really good by one of those violent poxy things one time. So the next time I used garden shears with long handles to snip the retaining plastic band from a safe distance. I'm glad my current house has hard floors so I don't need floor mats.

Well yeah, the ones I used to buy from Staples would expand when you cut the tape. I think they were stored flat though, and they roll it up for you when you buy it. This was something else, you should have seen how hard it was to get the inner most part unrolled. It's a harder grade of PVC than those typical floor mats. It doesn't even stink like those other ones either... I hate vinyl chloride. Used to work with that shit. Know what that stinging component to the smell is? Why, only hydrochloric acid vapour.

It is pretty good so far though, for chair handling. We'll see how long it stays that way.

The ones I used to get had no odor to speak of. I got them on Amazon and they came rolled up in a box. This is the one.

That's polycarbonate ("Lexan"), not vinyl, it doesn't smell. That's very good material, too. Tough, but a bit ductile. I didn't know there were polycarbonate mats like this, I'll have to look for something made of that next time.

While it would be a harder variant, they make "plexiglass" out of that. Very strong and retains its optical clarity. It's better than acrylics.

Amazon didn't publish my product review. I can't remember exactly what I wrote now (can't find it anywhere... it's not in my profile with my others) but it was something like this

I gave it 3 stars, because if not for the inappropriate way it was packaged, it seems to be a good mat.
This product was far too difficult to unroll. The reason it's like this is because they rolled it up tightly while the resin was still warm.

Recommend work gloves and long sleeves while handling this snapping, venus fly trap of a product. (We should take a survey to see how many people lacerated themselves trying to unroll this)

I'm using it now, but I have stacks of books and other heavy objects around the edges to keep it from curling inwards again. I think I like the surface for my chair wheels, though.

I can't speak about the longevity or durability of this product yet, but I'm going to say right now that it was not worth the hassle. Packaging matters.
I tried taking the weights off today (~24 hours) and thought it was OK, but after a few hours the edge that was on the inside of the roll (very tight, strong memory) started to curl up again so I had to put it all back. I don't know if that's ever going to be OK, we'll see tomorrow. I'm sick of having that stupid shit in my way and it's pissing me off, though.

Maybe it takes a while for them to review reviews before publishing. I haven't done one of those in years, but I do have one I should probably leave a review for (used product shipped as new).

I had to do the same thing with mine. The last one wasn't so bad because I had a chest to hold down one end all the way across, and my folding table legs on the other end. But for the one I was using for work I had to put heavy items on each corner, including a trailer hitch. I think it took them 1 - 2 days and then they were completely flat.

Yes, the review made it. I just hadn't seen it take that long for one to show up. It may have been in a moderation queue or something
