American anything is untrustworthy

Post by Grogan »

My niece is in England... after finishing her 2 years of law courses there, she still has one more semester of Canadian university that she's doing remotely, while staying in England with her boyfriend.

Anyway, my sister bought her Canadian university text books and shipped them to London via FedEx. We're talking about $600 worth of text books and around $400 shipping fees paid for the freight! Little did she know, that FedEx didn't ship them directly to England, but first they went to a depot in Memphis, where the shipment was seized (let me guess... they think it's "drugs" from Canada) and we don't even know how to get them released. They had NO BUSINESS intercepting those packages, they were sent using the Canadian subsidiary and were supposed to go to the U.K.

Fuck, this pisses me off. Nothing in or from the U.S. can be trusted anymore.

If the class can be done remotely, then maybe the textbooks can be accessed online as well? This seems like mall cop bull dookey....

Yes, I think because she owns the books she has access to the textbooks online (but her Internet isn't always great at her place). I think I remember overhearing that in conversation, that she would be able to do that until the books got there.

Actually, I just asked and NO, she does not have access to these text books online, moreover, that was the reason for spending so much on FedEx shipping, because they wanted them to get there faster. It was 3 text books and it cost $450 (not $400) for the shipping method. Granted I'm sure they weighed a lot, but still that's a lot of money vs. sending it through the post internationally (which probably would have gotten there by now because it wouldn't be in the hands of American Customs or DHS or whichever mall cops that seize packages).

Wow, sorry to hear that. Hopefully it gets released soon. Have to agree, there was no reason for the US to even be involved in that.
