Re: Age Verification To Download An OS ISO?
I didn't watch it yet, but sites get kick backs from the age verification services. I absolutely refuse... as soon as I see that I just close the browser tab.

Re: Age Verification To Download An OS ISO?
It seems to be for strict targeting ads. One age group gets this, while another gets that.

Re: Age Verification To Download An OS ISO?
I've watched the video now, that is a different kind of age verification than I was thinking of. That's utterly ridiculous, trying to make a law that mandates age verification interfaces in software.

Re: Age Verification To Download An OS ISO?
It's worse than I had originally understood it, I thought it was just on the website with the download link, no, it's actually in the OS itself. They proclaim all this age verification stuff is to "protect the children", but I think that's just another excuse for state level tracking and surveillance, they've used the same excuse to justify other draconian stuff. This particular one wouldn't do much for what they claim but it's a foot in the door - if they succeed it'll get worse, the next step would be requiring a photo ID, a selfie etc just like they are increasingly forcing with other things now.

The thing is, the people lobbying for that law will THINK it's for the children, not understanding the ulterior motive of control and onerous limitations on software development.
The chip and dram shortages and prices seem like collateral damage too, when it's really the tech bros hoarding it like diamonds.

Re: Age Verification
Turns out the organizations that spent millions of dollars lobbying (legalized bribes) for this are lead by Meta/FB and did it solely for their own self interest. It takes them off the hook for any age-related violations on their sites, placing the responsibility on the OS, AND, governments get to use it for much broader tracking particularly once they advance it to requiring selfies and photo ID's which is inevitable down the road. Not everyone uses FB and other similar sites, but most people use an OS of some type.

Re: Age Verification
Of course you know I agree with what this guy is saying, because I've been saying similar things. I didn't know the extent of Meta's involvement, but the big boys love stuff like this, because it raises the bar to entry for others. You can bet that Microsoft, Google and Apple are salivating over this too.
Also, it's no accident about hoarding hardware, to drive prices up. They are controlling supply to keep prices high, without a doubt (and not increasing manufacturing), only too happy to let the tech industry grab them up at those prices.
This age verification won't affect me, because I have editors and compilers, but it's very bad for our computing environments.

Saw this today.
So they spent millions to shift their future liability to OS's.

He's such a fucking reptile that whenever I see a picture of him I expect a prehensile tongue to lash out and catch flies.
That cocksucker has done more harm to the Internet than anyone I know of... and it's all based on exploitation and lies, since Faecesbook's inception.

Re: Age Verification
If this one goes through it won't matter what the individual states do. I was wondering if this would eventually happen, and here we are.

There are authoritarians on both sides. I hate the authoritarian left as much as the right. Pedolph Shitler and his cabal of clowfuck creeps, empower these people. They want to fuck everything up.
There's no way those cunts are going to pass that.
It's not even about protecting young age people, it's about locking down society.
