Fake Phishing Emails At Work

Post by Zema Bus »

At work they periodically send out fake phishing emails to test employees. I got one today, it was pretty easy to spot. This one was an email saying "Your subscription to the New York Post is about to expire" and then there's a big "Renew Now!" button with a note under it saying the link was only good for two hours. The from address was also bogus. So I used their notification button in Outlook to report phishing emails, which brings up a dialog asking what type of malicious email I'm reporting, along with a free text area into which I mentioned all the sketchy stuff I saw. When I submitted it I got a message saying that I past the test, and to not tell anyone about their test while it was ongoing. Anyone who fails those tests have to take classes on phishing emails lol!

New York Post is the most disgusting, right wing fellating propaganda organization, too

That's funny that it was a "test" but also insulting that they are playing such games.

I don't get any spam on my real email address (I'm pretty aggressive with spamassassin) but I also have an old local ISP mail account I pay to keep that gets a lot of crap. ISPs can't be so stringent. I only see html formatted as plain text (Sylpheed) so I examine the message source and headers to see what tomfoolery they are trying to pull on me.
