Physics Demonstration: F-350 vs Honda

Post by Zema Bus »

Saw this on FB tonight, though it happened in 2021.

KANE COUNTY, Utah — One person died after an accident in Kane County Thursday night.

At about 7:15 p.m., a Honda passenger car was southbound on U.S. Highway 89 near milepost 25 — about midway between Kanab and Lake Powell.

The driver lost control at a bend in the road, according to the Utah Highway Patrol, and the car went into the opposite lane. It was then t-boned by an oncoming Ford F-350 pickup truck.

The driver of the Honda was killed. UHP identified him as 30-year-old Joshua Ashley of Arizona.

The driver and passenger of the truck were treated and released shortly thereafter for minor injuries.

Officials said they suspect alcohol impairment as a possible cause for the accident.

That's another reason why I've never owned a car, only trucks.

The T-boner always fares better than the T-bonee, though. Back in the late 80's there was a whole carload of people I knew that died, pulling out from one side road onto another and getting T-boned by a pickup truck. The people in the truck weren't hurt. It's all in how the force is applied. If the T-boners are wearing seatbelts they probably won't get hurt at all (though today's cars will crumple the front like an accordion).

I don't think I'd want to get T-boned in today's pickup trucks that I see, they don't have nearly as much substance.

I have an F250 Diesel that I pull our camper with. In the pic, there is substantial damage to the front end that does not seem to go into the engine compartment. Most of the weight of these trucks is in the front. My truck can't cross wet grass on an incline unless the 4x4 is engaged. My truck weighs 8400 lbs with a full tank of fuel. In contrast, my 2007 Santa Fe does not weigh even half of that.
