Microsoft must think they are pretty clever, those controllers are a back end thing, not exposed to the OS. They must be doing something really hinkey.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about Microsoft updates breaking my shit and undoing configuration. My dad's laptop has Windows 11, I should check it, but he just does web, email, documents etc. nothing that would be moving large amounts of data.

I heard about another update that broke recovery options in Windows 10 and Windows 11, such that restore, reset, repair etc. weren't working. There's an update buried in an optional "quality update" rollup that fixes it. I got it on their Windows 10 computer, but dad's win11 laptop wasn't showing it available.

So it's Windows drivers corrupting registers. Boot time power behaviour is a good explanation why some people have their drives show up after the blue screen reboot, and some people don't if they don't get cleared.

Microsoft keeping silent about this also causes people to chase their tails (he said he had all kinds of people writing to him, troubleshooting drivers and hardware settings etc.) Also, because it was part of a rollup that was also a "feature update", it couldn't be uninstalled. Those cumulative updates are asinine.

I'm done with Windows. For the past couple of years all I've done is reboot to windows just to grab updates. I'm still on 10 with no reason to buy a new computer to run 11. I'd love to go back to Win 7 or XP.

Just leave it be, you probably wouldn't gain much space by repartitioning (well, unless you would lol), but you can just leave it there and never boot it unless you have a reason. Updates shmupdates

Its a 2 tb drive that has 4 partitions. Windows, Slackware current, and the old Slackware current plus swap. The old SW becomes the new SW after about a couple of years. No reason for this change up except keeping the old makes sure I don't lose any files. But there is nothing there that would wreck my world. Just nostalgic junk.

It might be fun to scrounge up some old Win iso's. I have 95 through Win 10. Just yank the network cable and go back to a simpler time....

Most of them likely wouldn't install on any PC you have (in a VM maybe, with basic drivers, VGA graphics etc.)
