I recently started selling a bunch of the computer components I seem to constantly buy. So far, I've sold 3 mobos, two cpus, three ram kits, two cases, two NVMe ssds, two gpus, and a cpu air cooler. All of it was just sitting around not being used, so it's nice to reclaim some of the money spent on the hardware. I hope I don't turn around and buy more hardware I don't need with the money I made. It just boggles my mind that the DDR5 memory I bought last summer for $85 is now $389! Yes, I took advantage of the market and made a profit on the resale, but I didn't get carried away.

Yeah, I'm fucking done buying computer hardware. For curiosity I went and looked at Amazon for the price of a new AMD card, and anything I'd want to buy is like $1400. Even they are few and far between, I see a lot of old workstation cards (some of them still ATI branded... they must still be AGP) listed for hundreds of dollars that they probably couldn't give away before. Also "renewed" 6800 XT cards for ~$600

If I have any kind of hardware failure I'm done.

Thank the fascists for the anti-consumer greed becoming SOP again. (companies hoarding, and an industry only too happy to keep production short, to keep prices high)

I tend to hold onto hardware in case I might need it due to a failure or maybe a project. I've done that for decades, I did get rid of a lot of old obsolete stuff before I moved but I couldn't part with all of it, old floppy drives etc.

Gamers Nexus has a new video out about this, he said we are now going to face a CPU shortage with prices going up 15%, on top of everything else. And then there's that statement by Jensen Huang, head of Nvidia: "I think the fact that everything is scarce is fantastic for us”. There has also been more talk recently about evidence the AI bubble may burst. If that happens it will be a buyer's market again...unless the hardware cartels cut production to keep prices artificially high.
