Re: pretty bad amdgpu fault last night

Besides checking the ratings for hardware guess we should also be looking at their RMA policies and what other buyers have reported about their RMA experiences. I got lucky with the XFX Radeon 7 card that died, XFX's RMA process worked well and I got a full refund. Maybe give their chat one more try...

Re: Health Issues

Thanks Grogan. I finally got some sleep last night by simply sitting upright in a non-reclined recliner. I have two recliners, I usually sleep in one that's more adjustable but less padded, while the other one is much more padded, but reclines too much for my reflux. If I'm not using the recline fun...

Health Issues

I have an appointment with an ENT first of May, I should be able to have a transnasal endoscopy done at that time to finally see what's going on. I went with an ENT because that's the quickest and easiest way to get an endoscopy done, no sedatives or anesthesia needed when done transnasal since it a...

Re: Close Encounter With A Sawblade

Sorry to hear that, hope you start feeling better soon. I know how frustrating it is when something prevents you from sitting for very long. My heartburn (I think it's an esophagus ulcer) was forcing me to stand at my kitchen counter in order to play games and watch videos. Maybe some USB extension ...

Manually Setting EFI Boot

Previously my new Arch install wasn't seen by the motherboard's UEFI, so the only way I could boot into it was via another distro's bootloader. Here's how I fixed EFI boot for both Arch and for Slackware, with the efi-directory adjusted to where the efi partition is mounted (/boot in Arch), and the ...

XZ Utils Backdoor

Researchers have found a malicious backdoor in a compression tool that made its way into widely used Linux distributions, including those from Red Hat and Debian. The compression utility, known as xz Utils, introduced the malicious code in versions 5.6.0 and 5.6.1, according to Andres Freund, the...

In this case it was the first gen processor for this socket with the board introduced around the same time, but when I'm not sure I'll look up the specs for a board I'm considering to see what processor series it supports.

Can you fly into the atmosphere of a gas giant? :) One thing that bothered me about No Man's Sky was the lack of gas giants, it's likely that most star systems have at least one. I'll have to pick up this one. Would you say it's worth the $100 US for the Premium Edition if I don't want to wait for t...

Re: Speaking Of BIOS Updates..

I've had to have older CPU's installed on boards just long enough to flash the BIOS so that it supported the newer one I wanted to use. It helps when you have something lying around to do that with (AMD tends to stick with the same socket for multiple generations) but it's a problem when you don't. ...

Slackware-Current

I have Slackware back! The installer kept selecting the wrong EFI partition, the one from Arch, and I didn't want it touching that so I did not let it install elilo. At the end of the installation I dropped back out to the console chrooted into /mnt (the new install root still mounted by the install...

On my Arch gaming machine I've been running Mate, I use Dolphin for some things but it has always been tough to read file names because the alternating color pattern had poor contrast.
