Re: Btop

Thanks for posting this, I think it's going to be my go-to system monitor

It's picking up the core temps on my Ryzen 7 without any issue. Not the GPU, but that's ok.

Re: Streaming Games Over The Network

I've had GERD since I was a teenager, but it takes me over eating (even mildly, which is a problem if I'm REALLY enjoying those nachos) or drinking a lot of beer (or a couple a night for a week running) for it to get really bad. Guinness doesn't do it, and neither does gin and indian tonic. Hopps se...

Re: Borderlands 3 online issues

The cosmetics you get are things like different clothes for the various classes, weapon skins, hats, and occasionally weapons. There are a few weapons that you can only get through the loot chest drops, but you still need to buy a key for them. None of the special set weapons are anything better tha...

Re: Borderlands 3 online issues

Taking out other players doesn't drop loot in TF2 though, it's a different system. Most matches you can get a dozen kills or more and get nothing but xp. Even then when you do get something it's usually a "cosmetic case" that you then have to buy a key to open. I take great delight in repo...

Re: Borderlands 3 online issues

In some cases they might be. Nobody sticks around when they find a server full of bots though, and the bots don't attack each other even when they're on the other team, so without actual players there's no xp to be had and thus no items to acquire. You can usually report the bots directly to Valve a...

Re: Borderlands 3 online issues

The other one I tend to go back to is Team Fortress 2. It's old now, but they keep pushing updates and events within the framework. Of course there's also microtransactions lurking there as well though it's mostly cosmetics. The really shitty part though is the sheer number of bots playing rather th...

Re: Borderlands 3 online issues

Very annoying. They make such a big deal about online co-op and then it's broken across all platforms. I was really hoping to play with my son in law, too.

Re: Borderlands 3 online issues

I made sure any firewalls were disabled completely, all internet access is direct the whole bit. Stupid thing goes from telling me which friends are playing, their online availability status, even what map they're on, but as soon as I try to join them mine goes offline, times out, gives me an errors...

Borderlands 3 online issues

Has anyone worked out how to play this in online co-op? I've tried repeatedly to play with my son in law (remote) and my daughter (LAN) and have had zero joy with it. Stupid thing seems to shut off it's own network connection when I try to connect to another game, times out, then goes back to normal...

Re: Random Stuff, Seen on the net that made me LoL

I started because I wanted to trace my birth parents and did a DNA test. Since then I've discovered a lot of things, actually found and met my father and family on his side (but not my mother, though I have information on her). Turns out I have a cousin named Bobby Singer as well, not the tv produce...

Re: Random Stuff, Seen on the net that made me LoL

I just got an email from one of those ancestry sites (I've been doing quite a bit of genealogy stuff over the last couple of years) and apparently I'm related to Queen Elizabeth II. She was my 13th cousin once removed on my mother's side.
So there's your utterly irrelevant thing for the day.

Re: HP's Printer Rental

I don't print a lot, but when I'm working on the bikes I like to print out a couple of pages from the service manuals to reference without risk of getting grease and oil on my phone or a tablet. Since my work life is sporadic I'm also often having to print out forms, sign them, and then scan them ba...

Re: HP's Printer Rental

My Canon on the other hand, while still pissy about ink (I fitted a big phat black tank but it refused to use that and insisted I replace the little tiny one or it wouldn't print plain black text, what a crock of bullshit!) it at least recognised that I don't need ink for the scanner to work. That's...

Re: Cop vs Acorn

Oh they have degrees here as well, the state training academy is a comfortable motorcycle ride from where I live and I did part of the detective's course in my undergraduate IT degree (forensic science), but that far-right jack-boot bullshit runs deep in many law enforcement agencies around the worl...

Re: HP's Printer Rental

I have a little Brother laser and a Canon colour inkjet that I mostly use as a scanner. I used to have a HP years ago but the stupid POS decided it wouldn't scan any more when the ink cartridges were empty. Arseholes. In the bin it went after that.

Re: Cop vs Acorn

It's an issue here in Aus as well. Ex military get preferential recruitment for the police when really they should be excluded unless they can get through a rigorous psych evaluation to prove they're not just going to kick in doors and start shooting like they're trained to do when breaching in the ...

Re: HP's Printer Rental

No way in hell I'll be touching a HP printer until they pull their heads out of their arses on this. Won't be helping anyone else with problems with one, either. If they're stupid enough to buy one it's their problem.

I believe the cops was a returned veteran known to have severe PTSD. How they let him into the police without a full psych clearance boggles the mind.

Re: Cop vs Acorn

I don't get how an acorn would spook a cop to start firing in a panic. There are some excitable boys that probably shouldn't have guns. PTSD can do that to you. Sounds etc that are completely innocent to anyone else can trigger an emotional cascade that makes the sufferer completely freak out and d...

I'll copy and paste my own post to save people the trouble. Screenshot_2024-03-02_20-20-06.png I tracked down and finally met my biological father last February. He died of lung cancer on the first of March last year. We had four days to get to know each other. I also gained three half sisters, and ...

Re: Bad Manager

Just tell them you're sick of the abuse from that manager and you refuse to discuss it any further. If nothing is said about people like that, nothing will ever be done. It might also take multiple reports for anything to happen, but in the mean time you can drop your grenade and get on with your li...

I found <shift> + <F5> doesn't work in FF for forcing a page refresh, instead it opens a dialogue to take a screenshot. To force refresh it's <shift> + click the reload button. I'm used to it now but it was a pain when I switched over from Chromium after they blocked it from using Chrome accounts fo...

It's just the old force reload control, nothing special.
Shift + F5 does the same thing on Chromium.
