Re: Looks Like I'll Have To Sell The House
I've been reading that there's a lot of this going on now, some people forced out even with a fully paid off loan because they're on a fixed income and can't afford the property tax hikes on top of the higher cost of living. Yeah I'd sure like to get something going to make money independent of an e...

Looks Like I'll Have To Sell The House
Well I may have to sell the house. I'm not making as much as I was when I first bought it all those years ago but I've been holding my own for the last 17 years. But now with the cost of living costing so much more, property taxes going way up, insurance going up, and very high income taxes things a...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs
A lot of people doing video card passthrough these days are running Looking Glass : Looking Glass is an open source application that allows the use of a KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) configured for VGA PCI Pass-through without an attached physical monitor, keyboard or mouse. This is the final s...

Re: Random Stuff, Seen on the net that made me LoL
There's a company called Edison Motors that builds diesel electric trucks (and makes conversion kits for existing trucks) with the same type of drive train as a diesel electric locomotive. They have no drive shafts, the engine powers a generator which powers electric motors on the axles.

I did a quick search, someone on Reddit said Plasma 4.14 was the last release to include screensavers.

I think they were already gone when I first started using Plasma 5 back in 2018 I think.

Thunderbird 125.0
Thunderbird has been based on Firefox ESR, but it just jumped from 115.0 to 125.0. I thought Firefox ESR must have jumped as well, but it's still showing as 115.0. So I don't know if Thunderbird was rebased on the regular release of Firefox, or if Firefox ESR will soon make the jump as well. I could...

Re: heh... my qemu still runs
I noticed that about Manjaro when I had previously configured her older machine to dual boot Manjaro and Windows 10 a few years ago. Most distros these days by default disable probing for other installed OS's so os-prober doesn't run. If not manually configuring it it can be enabled by adding or unc...

MS Open Sources MS-DOS 4.0
After publishing open-source versions of MS-DOS years ago for versions 1.25 and 2.0, Microsoft and IBM have now announced that MS-DOS 4.0 has been open-sourced under an MIT license. MS-DOS 4.0 is now open-source and available on GitHub. This open-sourcing of MS-DOS 4.00 is primarily done for histor...

Re: I'm a "Hamma"
Speaking of nephews, one of my nephews who I think is in his 30's now, has been playing a lot of Fallout: New Vegas lately on Steam. I saw him playing it in Steam when I got off work last night and he was still playing it when I went to bed. When I got up he was still playing it, and still is, almos...

Re: Arch Linux 2024
Plasma 6 is still not nearly as stable as Plasma 5 anyway, it often crashes when I merely click on a launcher. If he's not going to do any gaming on Linux then Debian may be a better option than Ubuntu. Debian is pretty good these days and with none of of the Ubuntu nonsense, though it will get crus...

Bazzite
I've been hearing about Bazzite recently and watched a few videos. It's a recreation of the Steam Deck OS (SteamOS). It can either be done as a console install or desktop. It's based on an immutable version of Fedora, but seems to work very well from what I've seen and read. I thought I might try it...

I'm surprised to hear Manjaro is still on Plasma 5. Slackware-Current is still on Plasma 5, but that's not surprising considering how long he stayed with Plasma 4

You can avoid paying those insane prices for a Windows key. There are sites that sell legit keys for $20 - $40, I got a Win10 one over a year ago for a small machine where I've occasionally needed a Windows install, and a Win10 key last summer for a test machine (the one with the Intel Arc card) wit...

Full Screen Ads For Windows 11
During a meeting this morning I had a large (but not full screen) ad pop up on my work Windows 10 laptop. It was for some Microsoft service, I was only in a meeting at the time and on a different screen, but if I had been working that would have covered up my work area on that screen. It reminded me...

I got it to work via Proxmox (also uses qemu) to install a Windows 11 VM. There it's just a matter of adding a virtual TPM module in the hardware section of the web GUI. Similar in Virt-Manager.
Re: Far Cry 6
I was glad when that DLC was finally over lol! It gets more frantic near the end but you get access to much better weapons.

That happened to me when work switched me from using their remote virtual machine to the laptop. Their VM was based in Texas or Florida, and right after I started using the laptop I got a message from the client facilities IT department about the change in location, and I had to change my password.

Yeah a lot of people will click on the link in the email rather than going directly to the site. At the top of the notification it says "attempt" so maybe they didn't succeed. Back in those days my passwords weren't nearly as strong as now so I wasn't sure what I'd find. I don't see any ac...
